Cool Cities..!

Good adaptations:

1) Making use of hybrid cars which use only sources of energy which don’t emit carbon dioxide. It only consumes water and air to move. This will reduce the amount of CO2 in the UAE.
2) The design of eco towers will help to reduce the amount of CO2 by 50% which will result in reducing the high temperature of the gulf region.
3) Cool cities are connected by public transportation such as light rail transit, it is better than having a car for every one in the city. That will help to reduce the CO2 emissions in the city.

Bad adaptations:

1) However, the cost of building cool cities is extremely high. That means not every country in the world can afford to buy similar cities. Plus, there is a certain number of people who can live there.
2) Eco towers have a very complex design which makes it difficult to build and very expensive.
3) We will definitely use water in the city for cooling. That means we need more water day after day. I think it will be difficult because we don’t have enough water resources.

My carbon footprint.

Carbon footprint is a measurement of the total set of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon dioxide caused directly or indirectly by a person, event, product or a service. When I first calculated my footprint at the WWF website, I got a score of 2.87 earths. This number means that if everyone in this world had the same lifestyle as mine, then we would need 2.87 earths to cover my carbon footprint.

There are several areas in which my footprint levels are high. First, I scored poorly in the travel category due to a variety of reasons. I always use a medium sized car in my daily routine for example, going to collage and visiting my friends throughout the UAE. Plus, I travel to many parts of the world by plane and planes and planes emit a huge amount of carbon dioxide. In countries other than mine like Australia, I usually use public transportation like trains to travel to long distances destinations. A further reason for my poor footprint relates to the stuff category. That is because I enjoy playing video games for more than two hours per day. While I play, I use a video game, high definition screen and many other electronic appliances like an air conditioner to cool my room. In addition, I never recycle any kind of materials such as tins, cans, paper or plastic.

On the other hand there are many realistic solutions to reduce my footprint levels. One is to share as many rides as possible to any place I want to visit. For instance, I can go to the college with one or two of my classmates who live near my town. Second, I can make use of local public transportation like a minibus to go to different cities.
I think it will be difficult at first for local people. However, they will get used to it. In addition, I have to start dividing my garbage into different categories like paper, plastic and cans to send it for recycling. This way I can help to reduce the average carbon footprint of my country as well.

To sum up, reducing the annual carbon footprint of a country can be done by individuals living in it. If each country in the world managed to reduce its impact on the atmosphere, we could find a solution for what is called global warming.
